Back from my wallstreet hiatus

Well, after the market fell through the floor, after I lost a good portion of my long positions on such egregiously misleading stocks such as Chesapeake energy, and after the treachery of an election has passed, I decided to get back in.

I left 1 stock prior to market meltdown, Activision of course. Maybe I'm just a fanboi (sic) but it's still my favorite stock and after yesterday's earnings report I still think it will perform.

I took a long and hard look at my trading style and past performance. My biggest rookie mistake was not setting proper stop limits to minimize risk. That one mistake could have saved me a lot of grief. Also, I need to purchase stocks in smaller positions and slowly jump into them instead of all at once.

This may seem like simple principles, and they are! I think sometimes to realize what you read about and learn you need to practice it and fail at it, then you truly learn.

So, yesterday I bought a little, mostly on the short side. Here is what my portfolio looks like right now.

HK short at 18.10
FXP at 82.50
DUG at 40.10
and of course ATVI at a cost basis of 18.. ouch.

As crude as it may be...

South park is not only hilarious, but perfect in its metaphors. Season 8 touches on many offensive ideas and I love it!

South park clip coming that represents exactly how I fell about this upcoming election.

To Bailout or not?

That is the question. The suspense is killing the stock market, along with my portfolio. I wish I wouldn't have started investing at the pinnacle of the stock market and then try and make up for lost ground in one of the harshest markets in US history. All I can do is learn as many lessons as possible and realize I have plenty of time to make up for unrealized losses.

Vote of no confidence

That should be the third option on the ballot for the upcoming presendential election.

If Obama and McCain are on an airplane and it crashed into a mountain side and both of them died, who would survive?

Answer: The Country

2 weeks at an internment camp

What a wonderful time. I almost felt like I was one of the Japanese detainees. We did activities that were painfully repetitive and unimportant. The 110 degree weather didn't help improve my moral either. One interesting aspect was my newly appointed 1LT rank. The discrepancy in respect between being a 2LT and 1LT was amazing. I have come to the conclusion that 1LT is the best rank in the Army. You no longer are the "butter bar," but you're not a Captain either. You don't have the responsibilities of a Captain nor the mishaps of a 2LT. Its a beautiful thing!

TSO or VLO or Both?

I guess it all depends on what track Gustav takes. Just from the name Gustav sounds like one bad ass hurricane unlike Fay, which was just gay.

Statistically male hurricanes are more destructive. 4x more destructive! In the past 25 years or so the most destructive male hurricanes have killed 11,800 while the hurricanes with female monikers have killed less than 100.

The computer models put this thing going right over the rigs in the Gulf Coast. I never have paid attention to the market before, during or after a hurricane but it will be interesting to see how wallstreet will react on Tuesday when the market reopens. I think my CHK, VLO, and TSO should do well. As of fridays close I was already up 3% in TSO. CHK was down 1.71% and VLO closed down but afterhours action made it positive.

Not eating meat is bad for the brain

The utter stupidity of this, I cant help but laugh.
PETA - People Eating Tasty Animals?

"We think that Mexicans and other immigrants should be warned if they cross into the U.S. they are putting their health at risk..."

Damn straight!

Better watch out for el diablo blanco aka La Migra!

Democrats

After the current administration it seems like a perfect environment for a Democratic challenger. So why then is Obama no better than tied with McCain in the polls? It would seem to me he would be leading by a much greater margin.

"Orympics"

Are gold metals actually solid gold? Olympians as well as gold longs must be upset for the current trend in the commodity.

The Olympics aren't as exciting as they use to be. I especially dislike the gymnastics. The U.S. has the most attractive team this year but it still wasn't enough to grab my attention. Gynastics is the same as it was when I use to watch it as a child. The same uneven bars, the same floor exercise, the same everything! There has been little to no progression in the sport... and it bores me.

Things worth watching during the Summer Games:

1. Beach Volleyball
2. Table Tenis
3. Rowing
4. Shooting
Now, this is a sport!

21, more like 16

After finishing a debacle of a movie that was supposedly based on the book "Bringing Down the House," 21, loosely related to the dramatic and thrilling book. The book had so many plots and subplots that would fit perfectly into a movie, I saw no need to diverge from the exciting real life plot. The movie really moved away from the book when "Mickey Rosa" ratted out the team and then how the money was stolen twice from the team. The only reason I was not completely distraught over the waste of time this movie was was because I had a high chance of placing in a Pokerstars multi table tournament (MTT). Until, the poker gods decided it would not be.

Intro

Welcome to my Blog. I will be talking about a variety of things on this blog. The stock market, poker, news events, cars, movies, video games, and anything that peaks my interest for the day.

Additionally, come December, I will be deployed to Kosovo and this blog will be a way for my family and friends to stay in touch while I'm deployed.
